Bangis ng Solar Sports & GMA 7 Against Manny Pacquiao & ABS-CBN Wins

Post Rating

Last Wednesday, while driving from my hometown Bulacan to Manila, I was listening to TV Patrol on AM Radio and there was this breaking news about Manny “PacMan” Pacquiao that he will be joining Channel 2 or ABS-CBN in the airing of this next fight with Ricky Hatton in May.  They then played an audio clip (probably it was a video clip as I cannot see it) where Manny explains a bit of why he moved and what to expect from his new home at ABS-CBN.  The Kapamilya team is so happy about it and keep congratulating and welcoming PacMan on air. Quickly my mind starts to wonder what happened to the contract of Solar Sports with Manny Pacquaio.

The sounds of cash register keeps playing in my mind.  Money, money & Manny.

Over the next few days, I saw and hear a lot of buzz about it on DZMM and Channel 2 as well as websites and blogs supporting ABS-CBN in this issue.  Surely, they are all happy that Manny  is going from GMA 7 to ABS-CBN not just for the money but more importantly bragging rights that they won over a competitor.  Good thing I am TV-Station neutral as I only need the relevant news from them both.  I only watch their encroachment on each other, the pirating here and there and the boastings of survey ratings to which I don’t know now which is true.

I am a huge fan of Manny Pacquiao (not to mention we bear the same nickname) and to think that this is all happening makes me cringe that he is into a big legal fight again.  It happened already with Bob Arum’s Top Rank and Dela Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions where Manny was sandwiched by 2 international promoting giants over a big legal mess.  I pity Manny for not being savvy about these contracts.  Aside from good financial planners, Manny also needs outstanding lawyers that can protect him from legal issues such as this.

And so yesterday afternoon as I was busy with some things, I overheard over GMA 7 on another breaking news that Manny Pacquiao will no longer join forces with ABS-CBN.  I literally jumped off my seat to watch the breaking news interrupting a regular TV show.  It turned out, according to the report, that Manny wrote a letter to Solar Sports asking them to cancel the contract due to some breach of contract terms.

So Solar Sports and GMA 7 have teamed up to bring their contract back on track as they will be losing not only airing rights (and the huge sums of money that goes with it) to its main competitor, ABS-CBN.  I am sure this is one hell of a negotiation to convince Manny to retract his letter as well as so many other words and talks he already made with respect to the deal with Channel 2.

Now, clearly I can say that the Bangis ng Solar Sports with the negotiations with MP Promotions emerged victorious over the Bangis ni Manny, the Pinoy Kamao.

And this is the sad part.  With all these roller-coaster ride on contracts, MP Promotions can’t defend their stance more solidly as to why they now turn their backs to ABS-CBN.  Manny Pacquiao, on the other hand, not only look stupid to the eyes of the Filipino people, I am sure he also lost a lot credibility on how he is dealing now with his fights.  I hate to say this but sabi nga nila e, “Pera pera lang yan”.

I know Manny, our PacMan hero and considered now as the “Mexicutioner” in boxing, will not be like that greedy for more money.  Some people must be playing some tricks with him or advising him the wrong things that he ended up all fucked up in the end.

And I hope Manny that you will learn from this very embarassing lesson.  The Filipino people care for you more than you know it.  Don’t let yourself get drowned by power and money.  After all, these people who are around you today, relishing your victories and making a killing on your successes will be gone once you are no longer on the limelight.  This is guaranteed but the Pinoys supporting you will always be there all the way.

Get back on track Manny!  You are worth all the Pinoy’s support!
